The Best Bars in Istanbul: Where the City Never Sleeps
Istanbul is a city that never sleeps, and I say this as someone who knows her personally. When the sun sets, the city lights up with bars, music, and the sound of clinking glasses. From rooftops with Bosphorus views to cozy neighbourhood cocktail dens, Istanbul has something for everyone. Here are my seven favourites, from someone who has tested them all more times than I should admit.
Alexandra Cocktail Bar (Arnavutköy)
Right in Arnavutköy, one of Istanbul's most charming districts, Alexandra is a true gem. The inside is chic and stylish, but the real magic happens on the terrace: a breathtaking view of the Bosphorus, the kind that makes every drink taste better. Classic cocktails and house creations both shine here. Scenery and sophistication in one glass.
Goose (Kuruçeşme)
Goose is one of those places where you feel at home the moment you walk in. Modern and trendy but never flashy, it is the kind of bar where you sit back, talk with friends, and quietly realise you are drinking some of the best cocktails in the city. Simple, fun, always welcoming.
The Townhouse (Cadde)
The Townhouse is more than a bar; it is a story of passion, built on the dream of bringing flavours and cultures together. Inspired by London's cosmopolitan spirit, it keeps evolving: signature cocktails, creative food, and energy from brunch to the last drink of the night.
Geyik (Cihangir)
Small but legendary. Geyik is one of Istanbul's coziest cocktail spots, where locals and travellers squeeze in together for creative drinks and real warmth. It feels like a secret, even though everyone seems to know it. If you visit only one bar from this list, make it this one.
Finn (Karaköy)
Trendy and colourful, Finn is the go-to for stylish nights out in Karaköy. Bold, playful cocktails and a room that is always buzzing. Come here for energy.
Monkey (Tophane)
Young, artsy, experimental, with one of the best sunset views a cocktail has ever had. The bartenders love surprising guests with creative twists, so come with an open mind and leave the menu to them.
Lucca (Bebek)
By day a café, by night a lively bar with DJs and a glamorous crowd. Lucca is where stylish Istanbul gathers to see and be seen, and it has held that title for years, which in this city is the hardest trick of all.
From laid-back dens like Geyik to Bosphorus glamour at Alexandra, Istanbul's cocktail scene is as layered as the city itself. My advice: start on a terrace at sunset, end somewhere small and crowded after midnight. That is the real Istanbul order of things.
